How to Become a CNA in Las Vegas

Have you ever received treatment at a hospital? The nurse who took your vitals and checked on you daily was most likely a CNA. CNAs are Certified Nurse Aides and Certified Nursing Assistants. They are responsible for the general care of patients. They contribute to the everyday well-being of patients, therefore making the role of a CNA very important and rewarding.

CNAs must become certified by their state. For example, in Nevada you must be 18 years old and have a up-to-date immunization record, including a TB test. Many of the state-approved CNA training centers are located in or near Las Vegas. Graduate with your CNA certificate and register on the Nevada Nurse Registry. Once you complete these steps you can then apply for a CNA job in Las Vegas.

Nevada has one of the highest CNA employment rates, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. There are more than 88,000 CNAs currently employed. Nevada is also ranked 3rd in the nation for top-paying metro area jobs at nearly $17/hour.

Nearly 50% of CNAs work in Nursing Care Facilities, and there are 2,500 registered nursing facilities in the state of Nevada that offer employment.

    Yelp Testimonial:

I have never heard of Pima Medical Institute until a few years ago when I was looking into the medical field as a career. I've been to College of Southern Nevada and completed the course for the Certified Nursing Assistant to place my foot in the door to start my medical career. I knew where I was headed and I was on my way! After working as CNA for a year and a half, my hunger for more led me to change my major from nursing to radiology. After completing all of my general education classes and working the medical for 4 years, a friend of mine suggested I apply for the radiology program here at PMI. I called and requested more information in attending school here. - Aljamin S.

This place is seriously fantastic. I took the BLS class today since I'm a newly certified CNA. Tom is a great great great teacher and takes teaching CPR very seriously, which I appreciate. He is seriously the nicest and I'm so happy I found this place. I also love that it's a family business and the class is so reasonably priced. I would seriously recommend this to anyone who wants/needs their CPR certification. I will forever come here for my renewal! - Frankie Z.

    Yelp Testimonial:

First off, CSN cares deeply for the tutoring department and does all it can for the FREE tutoring services made available daily for any enrolled student. We even have courses dedicated to preventing students from dropping their courses and wasting their money. The professors here are either amazing or terrible. Books are a scam no matter where you go. That's part of college, get used to it. Don't complain, because you signed yourself up for it, and you can quit whenever you like. This is a fairly small college servicing thousands of students from an insanely diverse and overpopulated city. Not sure why so many have Ivy League standards for a community college with standard education and curriculums. - Emma R.

    Yelp Testimonial:

Touro University Nevada features many programs like Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Physician Assistant, Health Education, Occupational Therapy, and Nursing (Bachelor not required). I am currently a nursing student in the Entry Level Masters Program. This program is 6-7 semesters long: the first 4 semesters are the accelerated BSN portion (16 months), which will give students a BSN at the end and eligibility to take the N-CLEX exam to be a registered nurse. A previous bachelors is not needed for the first phase, but required if you want to be in the Entry Level Masters program. After this phase is complete, the next couple of semesters is the Masters portion which will give students a Masters in Nursing after completion. Despite many unforeseen occurences during our school year, the nursing program is providing valuable education and experience. Good place to go for nursing school if you already know that you want to do it, and will get it done quickly. - Rachel C.

I have gone to NSC for over a year now and love it. I am in the Nursing Program and the teachers are great and really care about your understanding and success. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants a great education with better than CSN quality & cheaper than UNLV prices. The class sizes are really small and the teachers are more than willing to help you when needed. I love the school so much both my younger brothers are going here now for Business and they love it too. - Sarah M.

    Yelp Testimonial:

May not be the best vocational school in Vegas, but served my purpose. Graduated December last year. They have for the most part, decent and knowledgeable nursing instructors and nursing director. The only downside is the school's downstairs administration. The difference between administration and the Mafia, one if them is organized. - Mando R.
